UMB-2010 PTN participants are grouped into 3 (three) groups:

1. IPA groups.
2. IPS Group.
3. IPC group (Group IPA + IPS).

P-SPMBN (Perhimpuan Seleksi Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru Nusantara) sebagai organ penyelenggara seleksi dan penerimaan mahasiswa baru pada perguruan tinggi negeri di Indonesia telah mempunyai sejarah yang cukup lama yaitu dari tahun 1976 hingga saat ini 2008 telah berusia 32 tahun. Sekalipun namanya silih berganti semenjak Ujian Masuk Bersama “SKALU” (Sekretariat Kerjasama Antar Lima Universitas (1976), kemudian Proyek-Proyek Perintis I, II, II, IV (1977-1982), SIPENMARU (1982 - 1989), UMPTN (1989-2002), SPMB ( 2002-2003), PANTAP SPMB ( 2003-2005), P-SPMBN (2006-2008) namun mempunyai tujuan yang tetap yaitu memilih calon mahasiswa pada suatu program studi perguruan tinggi negeri yang mempunyai kemampuan akademik dan dapat menyelesaikan studi sesuai dengan batas waktu yang telah ditentukan (SPMB menyeleksi; Rektor yang berkewenangan menerima). SPMB juga mempunyai “semangat kerja” yang tinggi dan sebagai unsur pelayanan kepada masyarakat berperan serta dalam upaya mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa serta senantiasa berupaya untuk mengembangkan kualitas mahasiswa yang berkelanjutan. Peran SPMB selama ini telah diakui oleh masyarakat, baik masyarakat akademis maupun masyarakat luas, karena terbukti memiliki sistem seleksi yang solid dan valid.
Untuk itu sejak tahun 2006 kelembagaan SPMB dibentuk menjadi lebih formal yang memenuhi aspek legal, yakni dengan diterbitkannya Akte pendirian Perhimpunan SPMB ditandatangani oleh seluruh rektor PTN dan Mantan rektor-perorangan dan mereka yang berjasa sebanyak 57 orang sebagai pendiri dihadapan notaris Fathiah Helmi. Penandatanganan Akte dilakukan pada hari Jum’at tanggal 02 Desember 2005 jam 21.00 WIB di Hotel Mercure Ancol Jakarta. Pembentukan badan hukum Perhimpunan SPMB Nusantara secara hukum sah kemudian dikukuhkan dalam Surat Keputusan Menteri Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia Nomor : C-37.HT.01.03 tahun 2006. Dalam perjalannya, pada tahun 2008 kegiatan penerimaan calon mahasiswa untuk PTN tidak lagi dilaksanakan oleh SPMB.

Meskipun demikian P-SPMB sebagai lembaga yang berbadan hukum terus mengembangkan diri dengan melakukan perluasan fungsi sesuai dengan tujuannya, yakni :
